First Record of The Warm Spell Broken - Cool Down Imminent

A record high minimum was broken yesterday in Winnipeg. The minimum was just -0.5°C, smashing the old record of -3.9°C in 1877!! It is possible we may break another high minimum record today as well (old record -2.8°C in 2002).

Thick fog has developed this morning and is expected to redevelop again tonight into tomorrow morning. Temperatures will remain within about 2-3°C from the freezing mark today and tomorrow. However, a cool down is expected by tomorrow night with temperatures returning to near seasonal for early-mid week. Some flurries will also be possible Sunday into Monday, but we're not expecting much accumulation.

Overall, it looks like we wont be too far from seasonal through to Christmas with values around or slightly above normal. There are hints of getting back into colder weather closer to the end of the month, but it's too far to say how cold.

The current weather pattern does not favour any major snowstorms for the foreseeable future with only a few light snowfalls at times.

  2. Snow depth down to 3-4 cm here this afternoon... Much better than the -37.3°C and 20 cm snow depth we woke up to a year ago from tomorrow! Don't see any significant snowfalls for at least another week, so we might be flirting with a brown christmas in some parts of southern Manitoba this year if we don't get any snowfalls before then. Fields are looking quite bare on rural webcams this morning.

  3. Hoping to have the Manitoba 2014 t-storm stats up on AWM soon... I've finished the post but there appears to be a delay in getting the post up right now.

    1. Will also have the top 10 weather events of 2014 poll up sometime this week as well. All of you will have the chance for vote for what you think were the two top events in the Winnipeg area/RRV this year. I may use the results to decide the order of the top 10 events like I did last year.

  4. Starting to see signs of a stronger clipper system for Monday-Tuesday next week. Too early to say exactly where it will track, so snowfall amounts are uncertain. Precipitation type also a question right now with some models hinting it may warm enough for other types of precipitation at some times.
